Welcome to the practice who treats your pet like one of the family!

Ark Veterinary Clinics were founded in 1994 and have been serving the local community ever since.

We treat all small animal and exotic pets and have two vets with extensive experience and knowledge of all exotic species we are happy to see all your reptiles, birds and small mammals.  We look forward to welcoming you to the practice but ask that you call prior to your first appointment to ensure we have the most appropriate vet available to treat your pet. There is ample parking behind the practice.

Madonna is the Clinical Lead for the Selective Exotics Rotation for the Final year vet students from Glasgow Vet School. Final year students who are particularly interested in Exotics work in the clinic with Madonna, Krissy, Laura, and our fantastic team for a three week rotation. The practice is really proud of being a key component of training the next generation of exotic vets to care for our furry, feathery, and scaley members of our family!

Client Updates:  FESTIVE SEASON

Myself and the team would like to extend a heart felt thank you to all of our amazing clients for all their support during this particularly difficult year. Thank you also for all the cards and gifts, they are very much appreciated! We wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

The clinic will only be closed on Christmas day and New Years Day. We will be open 9am-11.30am by appointment only for urgent cases on Boxing day and the 2nd of January. Otherwise we are working as normal!

For emergencies please contact either Vets Now Glasgow 0141 3323212, or Emergency Vets Glasgow 0141 2605555. We will be open again on Tuesday 28th of May as normal.

RABBIT VACCINATIONS:

As some of you may be aware, there is a new variant of Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease in Europe that the current standard vaccination may not offer full protection against. At the moment it is not known if this new variant is actually in the UK , however it is only a matter of time. The is a new vaccine called Yurvac and is out of stock with all the wholesalers. It was initially only available in 40 dose vial which need to be used the same day they are opened. This would make it very expensive and as there are no confirmed cases in Scotland, the vaccine is out of stock anyway, and that the single dose vials should be available mid to end January we will be contacting clients in the new year to arrange the extra vaccine. It is important that your rabbit still receives its yearly myxomatosis vaccine (includes RHD 1 and 2) and we cannot give both vaccines on the same day.

Barbara Retires!

After 42 years of working at Coatbridge and previously also at Holytown, I am sure we can all agree that Barbara has earned her retirement! The 14th of December 2024 marked the end of an era as we wished Barbara well. She will be sorely missed as an excellent vet and team member, the clinic will not be the same without her but we are all looking forward to catching up with her over coffee and cakes in the near future!! Any clients who wish to hand in a card or extend any well wishes just speak to any of our team members and we will be happy to pass them on.

Ken McLean

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the sudden and unexpected death of our friend and colleague Ken McClean on the 5/2/24. Ken graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 1984. He worked in Northen Ireland before returning to Scotland, working in a few practices, the PDSA, before settling in the Ark Veterinary Clinics (Ltd as it became) in 1994, which he co owned. A fantastic vet, surgeon, mentor, boss, and friend, we considered ourselves blessed to have had him in our lives. Those who knew Ken will remember his sharp sense of humour, his passion for running, and his amazing musical talent. He loved his family deeply and leaves behind a wife and three daughters and our love and prayers are with his family. Our team will never be the same. He touched the lives of so many people and animals and he will never be forgotten. Quite simply he was a legend. 💔

We have a memorial book available at reception for anyone who wishes to write a favourite memory or message about our much missed friend and colleague Ken McClean. Ken was a rarity, a truely outstanding human and a complete gentleman with a fantastic sense of humour. As always our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones. For anyone who wishes to donate in memory of Ken his family have chosen the Guide Dog Association. Ken loved all animals but dogs in particular were firmly embedded in his heart. Donations may also be given in to the practice and I will ensure they are sent to the Guide Dogs Association.
