COVID 19 NEW EMERGENCY UPDATE! 07/08/2020

The following protocols have been
established to protect staff and clients:

No one exhibiting symptoms consistent with
COVID 19 is permitted to enter the premises.

A face mask or covering must be worn when
in the premises unless medically exempt.

Clients are directed to use hand sanitiser
when entering the building. This is located on
the reception desk.

Only one client is permitted to accompany
their pet/s into the premises.

Clients are respectfully reminded to maintain
social distancing within the premises.

No more than four people are allowed to be
waiting in the seated area. These seats have
been marked out and are 2 metres apart.

14/07/2020 FACE MASKS ARE MANDATORY FOR ENTRY TO THE PRACTICE.

With the reopening of salons and indoor shops we are considering our next steps. For the next two weeks we are still on restricted cases, this is to see if there is a second wave and another lockdown.

FROM THE 27TH JULY: PROVIDING WE HAVE NOT ENTERED ANOTHER LOCK DOWN: the practice plans to scale back on the email triaging.

This means the emails WILL NOT BE ANSWERED DAILY. CLIENTS SHOULD CONTACT THE SURGERY VIA PHONE CALL IN THE FIRST INSTANCE. THERE WILL BE A LIMITED NUMBER OF APPOINTMENTS DAILY FOR NON URGENT CASES SO PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE ALL TRY TO ADJUST YET AGAIN.

22/06/2020 CAN ALL CLIENTS PLEASE REMEMBER THEIR FACE MASKS, WE MAY REFUSE ENTRY WITHOUT THEM.

RABBITS:

ALL RABBITS CAN BE VACCINATED. THERE HAS BEEN TWO CONFIRMED DEATHS LOCALLY DUE TO RHD 2 SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR RABBIT IS UP TO DATE AND VACCINATED AGAINST ALL THREE: MYXO, RHD1 AND RHD 2.

DOGS & CATS:

We are now sending out booster reminder invitations for any dog or cat whose booster is over three months overdue. This is due to a risk assessment being carried out that after three months lapse we are not confident the vaccine will still protect your pets. Booster vaccination appoints will only be available to pets who are three months over due. Please be patient as there are limited slots available daily.

07/06/2020

Again I would like to start by thanking the vast majority of our clients for their patience, understanding and kindness during these challenging times. Unfortunately I am not updating to say we are going back to a more normal way of working. We are still awaiting further guidance on when that will be.

However, due to the fact we are now seeing more urgent cases rather than just immediately life threatening cases, then there has been a rise in clients entering the practice. The Scottish government has recommended face masks or coverings when out in public. Unfortunately many of out clients are still not wearing face masks. To protect our staff we have now instigated a policy that to gain entry to the practice regardless of whether it is to be seen by the vet or to pick up medication, clients MUST wear a face mask or covering. From the 15th of June the practice may refuse entry to anyone not complying. This is to keep you safe as well as our staff. Please continue to help keen us safe so we can be here to keep your beloved pet safe. Thank you!

WORMERS AND FLEA/TICK TREATMENTS
Due to the length of the lockdown we have been given the go ahead to dispense preventative parasitic medication. Please contact the surgery where we will give you instructions how to minimise the risk of exposure and maintain social distancing.
VACCINATION UPDATE DURING COVID 19 LOCKDOWN
The Governing body of veterinary surgeons is the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Due to the continued lockdown with no end in sight they have released the following advice:
Puppy and kitten vaccinations plus dogs for their first adult booster MAY be carried out on an INDIVIDUALLY assessed risk benefit assessment.
This DOES NOT mean business as usual and any veterinary practice who is blanket vaccinating is not only breaking the code of professional conduct (which could lead to disciplinary action) but also putting your life and the life’s of your loved ones at risk.
There is no need to vaccinate puppies under ten weeks of age. If your puppy has reached ten weeks old then please contact the surgery to discuss your individual case. It may be that we can organise to vaccinate your puppy, depending on circumstances and also adhering to social distancing rules.
If your kitten has started trying to escape the house and you intend to let your cat outdoors then please contact the surgery to discuss your individual case. If your kitten is happy in the house then at the moment the risk of exposing you to COVID 19 outweighs the benefit of vaccination at this current time.
Rabbits: due to an outbreak of myxomatosis and the unknown duration of immunity after one year then we are vaccinating rabbits. Please contact the surgery so we can arrange a safe time for you to drop off your rabbit.
These are scary, frustrating and surreal times. We are here to support you and your beloved pets. We also need your support! We ALWAYS put your Pets’s health first and during this pandemic we also have a responsibility to keeping you safe. We do not like having to work like this. Please continue to support us by staying home unless it is essential. Please help us ensure you still have the practice and staff you know and love to continue on your pets journey with you when this pandemic is under control.
